1849

Priest Johann Imseng skis down from Saas-Fee to Saas-Grund on self-made wooden boards. He was the first person in Switzerland to ski.

1880/81

The community of Saas-Fee constructs the first hotel and names it Dom (after the highest mountain, which is completely located on Swiss ground).

1908

On the 12th of February, 16 ski course participants found a ski club with headquarters in Saas-Fee called Allalin.

1925

The Saas-Fee Tourism Board is founded.

1931

The first Olympic Ski Championships take place in Mürren.

1936

Alpine ski races are part of the Olympic Winter Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany for the first time.

1948

Switzerland wins Olympic Gold in the military patrol discipline. Three of the four team members, namely Robert Zubriggen, Arnold Andenmatten and Heinrich Zurbriggen are from Saas-Fee.

1951

After about one year, the construction works for the road from Saas-Grund to Saas-Fee were completed, and on the 8th of July mayor Hubert Bumann was the first person to drive up the two hairpin turns.

1951

The Saas-Fee Ski School is founded.

1954

Saas-Fee receives the first aerial ropeway. It leads from Chalbermatten to Spielboden.

1965

The two Ski Schools, which existed from the beginning of the 60's, are reunited thanks to the mediation of the priest.

1965

The rate for a full day of private lessons is 70 Francs, and 5 Francs for a half-day group course.

1968

The Swiss Ski School Association Saas-Fee is founded.

1969

The Felskinnbahn and Hannigbahn cable cars are constructed.

1976

The Ski School office moves to today's location in the "Alter Konsum" building.

1984

The Metro Alpin from Felskinn to Mittelallalin is opened.

1986

The first snowboards are sold and rented in Saas-Fee and the first snowboard lessons are organised.

Beginning of the 90's

Skiing experiences considerable changes. Carving skis are introduced and the telemark ski technique experiences a revival.

Fabian Zurbriggen used to live as a Zen monk in Japan and speaks fluent Japanese and Mandarin. At the beginning of the season the 43 year old ski instructor flies to China to advertise Saas-Fee in the ski resorts.

25 year old Gabriel Anthamatten dares to jump in at the deep end. He is the new boss of the Swiss Ski School Saas-Fee. This is a big challenge for the new ski school director – now he needs to put his private life behind.

As a child, Steffi Bumann lost her father in the mountains. Now the young ski teacher wants to make a mountain tour to visit the site of the tragic accident.

Like every season, the full of life ski instructor from Ticino, Simone Donati has his hands full managing different jobs. During the night he works on the snowmaking installations and during the day he works as a ski instructor. In addition he has recently started working as an instructor on an indoor ski ramp.
